Finn spent the 90s leading Minneapolis indie band Lifter Puller, which released 3 albums and an EP. After relocating to New York, he joined with Lifter Puller member Tad Kubler to form The Hold Steady in 2003. The Hold Steady quickly achieved critical acclaim and a worldwide fanbase with their unique pairing of dense lyrical narratives with big rock guitars. The Hold Steadys ninth album, The Price Of Progress, was released in March 2023, commemorating the bands 20th Anniversary.Craig Finn released his 6th solo album Always Been in 2025. Produced by Adam Granduciel (The War On Drugs), the album features musical performances by Granduciel and members of The War on Drugs, Kathleen Edwards, Sam Fender, and more.Always Been tells the story of a man who becomes a clergyman despite a lack of faith. The songs detail his rise, fall, and eventual redemption, while also shining a light to sharply reveal the other characters that populate the world he moves through. These stories take place in the same universe as the record, giving deeper looks at the characters within.Finn released his first solo album in 2012 with three additional solo LPs put forth from 2015 - 2019: Faith in the Future, We All Want The Same Things, and 2019s I Need a New War - which coalesced into a sign-of-the-times musical trilogy. The Last Living Finch are a Chicago two-piece emo band. Their performances are an outburst of grief and catharsis; raw, emotive, loud, occasionally devastating. Fighting Island is a Chicago-based musical project known for creating atmospheric, retro-inspired electronic and ambient 'music for video games that don't exist.' Future Nest blends Industrial Goth and Digital Hardcore to create a a show that is both dynamic and immersive. The action of the songs is heightened by her improvised movement and vocal delivery, which connect the audience directly to the performance. The Sidepieces is a country band with a rotating cast of Chicago singers and players revisiting a range of mostly sad songs, some recent/some old, some familiar/some hidden gems, some traditional/some unorthodox. Led by Jordan Martins on pedal steel, The Sidepieces plays these songs in order to listen to eachother, improvise, find the form, invite surprises, and stretch the sounds that inhabit the song. Current members include Angela James, Sam Cantor, Ryan Norris, Kelsey Wild, Raul Cotaquispe, Nolan Chin, Gus Martini, and Chris Salveter (Judson Claiborne) among others. Listening, talking, weeping, dancing, and laughing are all encouraged from the audience.

Doors: 9PM / Show: 10PM / 21+ Ten years on, Omnis Deluxe is a bit of a paradox; Its an island of a record with a fully formed untethered-to-any-scene unique quality but I hear its influence everywhere in the art punk underground. There are countless bands that have mined inspiration from the LPs cerebral pop cool, single string riffs, syncopated hooks, and crispy mid-fi production style. Perhaps in 2016 when Omni cheekily named the album Deluxe, they knew they had a classic on their hands. The band was poking fun of the streaming era marketing tactic where artists re-enter the algorithm via a deluxe expanded version of an album right after the original is released but ironically, ten years later Omnis debut is a genuine classic and is being re-released with a bonus disc of B-sides, outtakes, and demos. Omni began as a way for Philip Frobos (bass + vocals) and Frankie Broyles (guitars + drums + keys) to practice creative spontaneity in contrast to the slower meticulous methods their then other bands employed. One fateful night in 2013, the then-roommates devised an Eno-inspired creative game: Would it be possible to write an entire song (arrangement + lyrics, etc.) all in one three hour night session? Whereas most bands begin sculpting a riff or progression brought in by one member, Omni revelled at the chance to begin each songwriting session with a true tabula rosa with no goal in mind except trusting the process. These sessions often began with a melodic bass line that was then quickly complemented by syncopated pointillist guitar (Frankie almost never voices full chords on guitar in Omni). Philip would then retreat to a quiet area to write lyrics as quickly as possible while Frankie worked on writing and recording the drum parts. Seeking the definitive by chance, any accidents that happened in the takes became baked into the songs arrangements; An extra measure here or resting a beat too long there forced the band to come up with creative musical solutions.

The Chicago Review — A Poetry Reading with… Cynthia Cruz, the author of ten poetry collections, including Hotel Oblivion, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and was a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Award. She has received a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton University and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She recently completed a PhD in philosophy at the European Graduate School, where she wrote her dissertation on Hegel and madness. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Notre Dame. Sara Nicholson, the author of three books of poetry, most recently April, all from the Song Cave. A chapbook of new poems, Honesty, was published by Distance No Object in 2026. She teaches in the MFA program at Boise State University. Martin Corless-Smith, who was born in Worcestershire. Formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997, Death Cab for Cutie broke through internationally with 2003?s platinum-certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of ?The Decade?s 50 Most Important Recordings.? Their 2005 major-label debut, Plans, also went platinum, earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Alternative Album, and produced hit singles including ?Soul Meets Body? and ?I Will Follow You into the Dark.? Over the decades they have continued to create and top charts. This June they released their 11th studio album, I Built You a Tower. The record showcases Death Cab for Cutie?s signature blend of introspective storytelling and dynamic rock arrangements with standout tracks like ?Riptides? and ?Punching the Flowers?.

A dude named Steve Poltz (me) in East Nashville wakes up one morning and gets a call from another dude in East Nashville named Dex Green. Dex says, , "rdquo" -> Hey man, you live so close. You oughta come over and make some music. Maybe we'll document it --- who knows, maybe it's a record." Capturing me in a studio is like convincing a whirling dervish to stop spinning long enough to sign a bill into law. It's chaos, caffeine, and accidental poetry --- art colliding with microphones and commerce in a glorious mess. That's how JoyRide happened. No seatbelts, no helmets. Just unsaturated, unadulterated art. Real humans making real noise in real time. JoyRide is my 14th solo album (not counting the Rugburns records, live things, and bootlegs floating around). I tour nonstop, so I usually have to be tricked into a studio under the guise of , "rdquo" -> just one song." The record opens with , "rdquo" -> If It Bleeds It Leads" --- my kinda classic mischief: , "rdquo" -> I can never watch the news with you because you yell back --- you scream like they can hear you in the television set." Then comes , "rdquo" -> Petrichor," inspired by the beautiful smell after it rains. (I later discovered Phish has one too, but mine's the barefoot cousin at brunch.) , "rdquo" -> At It Again" follows, a cosmic co-write with my brother-from-another-meerkat Jim Lauderdale, featuring Bryan Owings and Chris Donohue (Emmylou Harris's rhythm section). The title track , "rdquo" -> JoyRide" feels like a warm hug after a long road trip: , "rdquo" -> Free hugs, no shrugs, wrong drugs, bedbugs. Smiles, laughter, for here ever after."

Saxophonist and composer Geof Bradfield blends modern jazz, African rhythms, and the roots music of his native South into a style that is "explicitly adventurous and forward-looking" (All About Jazz). The group will premiere Bradfield's Tenderera, commissioned by Chamber Music America's New Jazz Works Program. Inspired by traditional Shona music of Zimbabwe, Tenderera incorporates African mbira and guimbri alongside traditional western instruments in a series of polyrhythmic textures and cyclical, kaleidoscopic melodies.

She began writing songs when she was 5 or so, where throughout most years of her life, music was implemented in some way. Whether that was playing the violin in the 3rd grade, singing in the choir all her life, performing in talent shows, and finally started to get gigs around Annapolis, MD when she was 14 years old. Now 23 years old, she continues to fuel this passion in Chicago, IL. She studied Contemporary, Urban and Popular Music at Columbia College Chicago, and now performs throughout the city of Chicago. She has been tirelessly working on her artistry, which has earned her live performances at venues like Schubas Tavern, Cobra Lounge, California Clipper and Uncommon Ground.
