Mari Froes is a Brazilian singer-songwriter whose music flows from the deepest roots of Brazilian Popular Music weaving together rhythm, emotion, and a distinctly contemporary voice. Her artistry is defined by an authentic relationship with Brazilian cultural identity, translated into sound with rare clarity and intention. She began her recording career in 2019 with the singles Moa and Rosa e Laranja, followed by her debut EP Nebulosa in 2020, which surpassed 20 million streams and established her as one of Brazils most compelling emerging voices. Fernando Jones s star blues students________If one word could describe this Chicago Blues Hall of Famer and Keeping the Blues Alive Award winning creative named Fernando Jones it would be rare. This multi-instrumentalist started off by playing the Blues on the guitar when he was just four years old. Today, hes still going strong as a bandleader. This world-class, internationally known American Bluesman, educator and songwriter was born to loving Mississippi parents on the Southside of Chicago.Jones is one of a few living African American Bluesmen to have a tribute album of his compositions done by a band on a different continent. Jones has performed his compositions worldwide, from The University of Hawaii to The Smithsonian Institute. In January 2020, the National Association of Music Merchants invited him to host a lecture on the impact of Blues Pedagogy. As a lecturer Fernando Jones has established Blues Camps for youths on the continents of Asia, Europe, North America and the Caribbean island of Cuba.

Diego Hedez, a gifted trumpeter born in Cuba and now based in New York, embodies a dynamic spirit in contemporary jazz and improvised music. Diego's musical journey includes collaborations with avant-garde icons like William Parker, David Virelles, Francisco Mela, and Daniel Carter, and performances at notable venues and festivals globally like The Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Roulette Intermedium, Bric Festival, Forward Festival, Winter Jazz festival among others. His recent projects, including 'The Forward Quartet' and collaborations with David Virelles and the Singer's Grove, showcase his commitment to pushing musical boundaries through free improvisation, traditional Cuban music, and sonic exploration. Marion Sly Mallard is a young and upcoming artist in today's music scene. She is an upright and electric bassist with many pursuits - performance, composition, touring, recording studio work, band-leading, music production/mixing, teaching, photography, and more. Originally from Decatur, IL, she has experienced many recognitions for her artistry, from being a JEN Sisters in Jazz selectee to being selected for the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program. Marion moved to Chicago in 2020 to pursue and complete a degree in Jazz Studies at the DePaul University SOM, and since then she has become an important part of the music scene across a multitude of genres. She is currently involved in many ensembles, including those under her own name, as well as playing with world-renowned musicians such as Joel Ross. Marion is passionate in all her pursuits within the arts and working toward many new collaborations within the Chicago and New York music scenes.

Founded around 1990, Sabertooth is led by two saxophonists: Cameron Pfiffner & Pat Mallinger. The band started out with the unique pairing of its two lead reedmen at an old musicians hang called Jazz Bulls in Lincoln Park West neighborhood of Chicago. From that night's collaboration the idea of Sabertooth began to take shape with a driving force behind the widely varied stylings best summed up as, 'just groove it'. Sabertooth has often ventured beyond soul-jazz and hard bop and moved into post-bop and modal territory with John Coltrane's modal recordings of the early to mid-'60s influencing the groups sound. Sabertooth is both a post-bop group and a soul-jazz/hard bop group with a highly diverse repertoire that includes many original compositions and jazz classics by Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Lester Young, John Coltrane, as well as covers by the Beatles, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Bob Marley. Special invited guests who have performed with Sabertooth have included Harry Conick Jr., Kurt Elling, Joe Lovano, Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis Band, Jack McDuff, Joey DeFrancesco, Umphrey's Mcgee Band, and many others. Saxophonist Sofia Koulouvaris is one of Chicago's most exciting young jazz voices. A remarkably skilled and expressive player for her age, she studied at DePaul University under master saxophonist Scott Burns and quickly established herself on the local scene. Her growing career already includes work with Soul Message, the Birch Creek Faculty Big Band, and DC & The Love, as well as leading her own quartet. Every Tuesday and Wednesday at the Relax Attack Jazz Series, we present Chicago's top jazz artists in a lively atmosphere, full of cocktail-shaking and spirited conversation.
