Jazz Record Art Collective presents A Night of Lester, Nat & Buddy with Jeremy Kahn Trio Tuesday November 3rd at Fulton Street Collective. The night will also feature live painting from visual artist TBA. Lester, Nat & Buddy In 1946, Lester Young, Nat King Cole and Buddy Rich teamed up in Hollywood, California to document what would be released as two legendary records. With no bass player involved, this sax/piano/drums trio (a somewhat unusual combination) recorded such classics as "I Cover The Waterfront", "Mean To Me", "The Man I Love" and "Three Little Words." Eric Schneider, Jeremy Kahn and George Fludas will recreate this trio, drawing from the repertoire of these immortal recordings.

MR. BLOTTO Mr. Blotto was born in Chicago as an off-night vehicle for musicians who loved each others playing but were in different bands at the time. The only rule was that they would only play what they loved. That philosophy continues today and has led Mr. Blotto into unique musical situations. Mr. Blotto takes the Jam band asthetic into areas unfamiliar to the standard Jam Scene. They have been known to cover entire albums by Led Zeppelin and the Who as well as perform entire shows of Country and Reggae. Artists as diverse as the Grateful Dead, the Flaming Lips, Willie Nelson and The Velvet Underground have seen their material interpreted by Mr. Blotto in the 2000+ shows the band has performed in the last 15 years, yet covers only pepper the bands hefty catalog of original material stemming from five studio albums and other unreleased crowd favorites. Wine Lips is pure chaos. The Canadian garage punk psych rockers know a thing or two about getting loud and rowdy, and their ear-scorchin', headbangin', adrenaline-pumpin' music rips so hard and fast it'll feel like you're being launched clean out of reality. The band's been givin'r since 2015. What began as a part-time project between Cam Hilborn (vox, songwriter, guitar) and Aurora Evans (drums) got cranked right up to a full-blown international shredfest over the last decade. They've quietly become one of the most successful independent rock bands to emerge from Canada in a generation. Wine Lips started out in and around Toronto, expanded to Ontario and Quebec, then knocked out a cheeky international tour in Hong Kong and China in 2018. From there, like their music, they never slowed down. They've ripped hundreds of sets all across North America, Europe, and Asia, playing big fat often sold-out shows at some legendary venues. For three years, they were pretty much always on the road — right up until the end of 2024 when they decided to chill a bit on all the touring to focus on writing their new record TV Dinner.

The Whistler Jam is an open session for jazz musicians of every stripe — players, improvisers, and explorers alike. Anchored by Whistler vets Matt Ulery (bass) and Quin Kirchner (drums), the house band kicks things off at 9:30pm with a short set before opening the floor for an all-night jam that runs until last call at 12:30am. Join us on the first Tuesday of each month at The Whistler. Every Tuesday and Wednesday at the Relax Attack Jazz Series, we present Chicago's top jazz artists in a lively atmosphere, full of cocktail-shaking and spirited conversation.

A few years ago he began working through his archive with his brother, acclaimed designer Barry Ament. Their efforts led to Since Forever, a deeply personal visual journal of creativity, friendship, and life on the road. Drawn largely from previously unreleased images, the collection offers a rare and intimate look at the formative years of Pearl Jam as they evolved from a small group of friends into one of the most influential bands of their generation. From backstage and in the studio to the countless miles between stages, Ament’s photographs capture candid moments of creativity, camaraderie, and the enduring relationships that helped sustain the band through its meteoric rise. At once a visual memoir, and a behind-the-scenes chronicle, the book reveals how relationships, travel, joy, and need contribute to the creative process. Since Forever reveals Ament’s unique perspective as both participant and observer of a defining time period in music and American culture.

A night of drag to benefit the programming of **Brass Beyond**, a local non-profit which supports female and gender expansive musicians through workshops and performance. Drag performances by **Tilda Watersclear** (Boston), **Papa Squat** (Chicago) Featuring emcee **Anita Bagel** w/ the **Tritone Subs Brass Band** **Bios:** *Tilda Watersclear* (she/her) is Boston's Trombonafide Legend & America's Sweetest Diabetic. *Papa Squat* (they/he/it) is a multidisciplinary performance artist, drag personality, & musician with a passion for the subversive. Led by Walter Sanchez, the *Tritone Subs Brass Band* represents alumni of the Blackhawks Band, Fly Honeys Show, and Chicago Theatre Softball League. Performing everything from Chappell Roan to Trombone Shorty, they represent some of Chicago's busiest musicians and best infielders.

The way she tells it, Isabel Dumaa doesn't remember finding music so much as the music finding her. Born and raised in San Francisco, Dumaa was "humming and trilling before she could talk" and pursuing a career making authentic, feminine, story-driven pop shortly thereafter. Her innate talent and desire was met with nothing but the most profound support from Dumaa's moms, who schlepped her to chorus classes, summer camps, and singing competitions all across the country. Their insistence on taking her artistic ambitions seriously was an invaluable boon to Dumaa's confidence and provided an early lesson in trusting one's gut. Moving to LA right after high school, the city represented a new frontier professionally. Everyone seemed one degree removed from the stars she idolized, and it required a lot of trial and error to find her voice. Dumaa had to learn to make herself heard as a young woman in the studio and communicate how she wanted to sound. After a few years cycling through various collaborators, she came out with her first single, "Call My Bluff", in 2022 and followed up quickly with "Quarter Life Crisis" a few months later. The guitar driven indie pop ballad about a girl on the brink of change marked a turning point in Dumaa's career. After years of making music others wanted her to make, it was the first song that felt authentically like Dumaa. Together with collaborators, Drew Polovick, Jed Jones, Brandon Shoop, and David Balshaw, Dumaa then put together an EP, Just My Nature, released in 2024. Centered on "Quarter Life Crisis", Just My Nature is a nostalgia-hued trip through the joys and anxieties of growing up and "a must-listen for anyone looking to process life as they know it while dreaming about what the future holds" (Tongue Tied Mag, 2024). Still, Dumaa felt compelled to create a project with a more coherent sonic throughline. Creatively, she drilled down on finding her singular sound. One that was influenced by the music she grew up with; the folk singers of the 70's like Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, and John Prine, the stars of Motown, like Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, and The Supremes, and, of course, The Beatles. Around this time, Dumaa connected with Sammy Witte, the type of collaborator she "felt like I'd been searching so long for." Their first session lasted ten hours and produced the seeds of the song, "You Don't Know Me", the lead single from her forthcoming EP, Reverie. In addition to understanding her vision, Witte granted Dumaa the space and time to come to her own conclusions, nurturing her point of view rather than steamrolling it with his own. Like "Quarter Life Crisis", "You Don't Know Me" struck Dumaa like a clarifying bolt of lightning. The story of a woman observing the wreckage of a failed relationship became a center pole for a collection of songs chronicling Dumaa's youthful attempts at romance. In her earlier work, Dumaa resisted the idea that she needed a man in her life to fill her notebooks. She wrote to process all sorts of feelings about friendship, coming of age, and her sense of self. But two years ago, Dumaa decided she was ready to let "a little drama in." After years of intentional singlehood, she realized she "didn't even know what (she) looked like in a relationship" and she was ready to find out. Finding out might be the core theme of Reverie. Drawing inspiration from two recent entanglements, Dumaa approaches the universal experiences of young love and heartbreak with clear eyed specificity. Rather than slip into cliche melodramatics, her lyrics contain the knowing perspective of a woman who understands these guys aren't the one but finds value in examining the pain regardless. With Reverie, Dumaa hopes fans hear their own experiences reflected. She knows "these are uncomfortable emotions…but I do want to feel them because that's a part of living". While the songs may be specific to a certain time in her life, its lessons, she hopes, are eternal. Dumaa says, "I'm not in high school, I'm not in college. But I am still just a young woman encountering the world. And I think that I'm continuing to learn that."
