Guitarist Alejandro Urzagaste is presenting his latest release "Universal Translation" with an all star quartet featuring Bill Carrothers, Anthony Cox and Ethan Kogan. The album is set in story with the opening track "Argent Messages," in homage to the pianist, composer Horace Silver with his voice of true inspiration. Selections are played from a mix of standards with movie music from French cinema and was recorded by Miles Hanson at Creation Audio in Minneapolis Minnesota in March of 2023. This group looks forward to playing in support of "Universal Translation." They will also be performing music from the two previous Flow recordings. Alejandro Urzagaste is a Chicago based guitarist of South American descent. He has 4 recordings out as a leader and has performed with Jodie Christian, Von Freeman, Rodney Whitaker, Fred Anderson, Malachi Favors and has toured with Deana Martin and Minneapolis rock pop act 12Rods. Bill Carrothers has been a professional pianist for over 25 years. He has played many venues throughout the U. S. and Europe including the Village Gate, Knitting Factory, Birdland, Blues Alley, New Morning (Paris), the Audi Jazz Festival in Brussels, the Nevers Jazz Festival (where he shared the bill with Abbey Lincoln), the Montreal Jazz Festival, Jazz Middelheim, and the Marciac Festival in France. In October of 2000, Mr. Carrothers headlined the prestigious Rising Star Tour throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He has been a leader on seventeen recordings, all of which have received critical acclaim. His sideman credits have included some of the greatest names in jazz, including Joe Beck, Scot t Colley, Buddy DeFranco, Dave Douglas, Curtis Fuller, Eric Gravatt, Drew Gress, Tim Hagans, Billy Higgins, Ari Hoenig, Lee Konitz, James Moody, Gary Peacock, Dewey Redman, Charlie Rouse, James Spaulding, Bill Stewart, Ben Street, Ira Sullivan, Toots Thielemans, and Benny Wallace. Anthony Cox is an American jazz bass player from Minneapolis Minnesota. He is known for his work with several leading musicians including Geri Allen, Dewey Redman, Dave Douglas, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Gary Thomas, Marty Ehrlich, Ed Blackwell, Joe Lovano, and Fred Wesley. Ethan Kogan is a Chicago-born, New York-based drummer and conceptualist who has been blessed with the company of great musicians. He has performed with WallaceRoney, Ursula Oppens, Phil Woods, Joe Lovano, Anthony Cox, Bill Carrothers, Eric Reed, Santi Debriano, Marvin "Bugalu" Smith, Frank Lacy, Marquis Hill, Emmanuel Michael, Cassandra Wilson, James Weidman and many others.

Fulton Street Collective presents a performance with ELLIE RUI QUARTET and PRABIR MEHTA TRIO on Wednesday, November 11th at 7:30pm. The evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA. Prabir Mehta is an acclaimed, Richmond, Virginia-based guitarist, vocalist, and composer known for his unique "raag guitar" technique. His musical style seamlessly bridges Eastern and Western cultures, taking the complex, ancient melodic frameworks of Indian classical raags and adapting them onto Western contemporary and acoustic guitar strings. Join us for an evening of music with Prabir exploring Ancient Indian raags on guitar. Accompaniment: Prudhvi Meda on mridanga and Kenneka Cook on box tanpura. Ellie Rui 瑞 is an active, rising jazz drummer, composer, and bandleader based in Chicago, Illinois. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, she has quickly built a reputation in the local jazz, funk, and R&B circuits for her fluid, energetic style and unconventional percussive compositions.

CHRIS FOREMAN Chris Foreman is a masterful musician and heir to the throne occupied by the soulful, bluesy jazz organ legends who were once his influence. Blind at birth, Foreman started playing piano at age five and began formal training at seven. As a teenager he was attracted to the organ sounds of Jack McDuff, Groove Holmes, JimmySmith and Jimmy McGriff. This attraction led Chris to pursue playing jazz on the organ, which he undertook through intensive study of recordings. Unlike many African- American musicians whose musical knowledge begins and is established through the church, Chris didn't start his apprenticeship as a church organist until he was almost twenty years old - well after his jazz roots were established. He has arrived at a most exciting blend of blues-gospel and jazz and has developed a stunning command and range on the instrument. The blend of his sound is evident in his professional experience, which has included work with Hank Crawford, Albert Collins, Bernard Purdie, The Mighty Blue Kings and Deep Blue Organ Trio. GREG ROCKINGHAM Drummer Greg Rockingham began playing when he was just three years old and debuted as a professional musician at age five in his father's jazz ensemble. An alumnus of the famed Interlochen Arts Academy and Northeastern University, he has won numerous musical awards from the Notre Dame Jazz Festival. Greg has performed or recorded with a wide range of famous names, including the orchestras of Glenn Miller and Guy Lombardo, vocalists Freddie Cole, Patty Page and Jerry Vale and instrumentalists Nat Adderley, Kenny Burrell, Charles Earland, Irene Reid, Ellis Marsalis, Nancy Wilson, and Deep Blue Organ Trio. GREG JUNG Greg Jung is a Chicago based alto saxophonist, originally from Albany, NY. He earned a Bachelor's degree from SUNY Purchase where he studied with Jon Gordon, Ralph Lalama, Gary Smulyan, Mark Vinci, Steve Wilson, Todd Coolman, Jon Faddis, Hal Galper, Charles Blenzig and others. In 2014 Greg won the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, and traveled to perform that year in Paris, France. He spent three years in NYC before deciding to travel the country, performing in clubs and on the street in many of America's great cities and small towns. It was in this way that he ended up in Chicago, where he has performed at venues like the Green Mill, Andy's, Winters, Hungry Brain and the Chicago Jazz Festival. Since emerging onto the scene, he has shared the stage with many of the world class musicians that reside in the city. Greg received the Chicago Luminarts Cultural Foundation Fellowship in 2023.

He began his career as a singer in various Baptist churches throughout Chicago. Around the age of 3, Eddies cousin, Bernice Benson, who played piano at Eddies mothers church, began teaching him how to play the piano where he learned to play by ear and eventually learned to read music.Eddie learned to play the clarinet, vibraphone, and saxophone while attending DuSable High School in Chicago, Illinois under the guidance of a well-known and influential musical director, Captain Walter Dyett. Captain Dyett was responsible for the development of several Jazz musicians who came out of Chicago from the 1940s to the early 1960s. Eddie always wanted to play the saxophone simply because he admired the way it looked, however in order to play saxophone for Captain Dyett one had to play the clarinet first, so Eddies first wind instrument was the clarinet. Though Kirby's background is steeped in jazz, his signature sound blends genres and styles. A sought-after collaborator, he's worked with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Frank Ocean, Harry Styles, and Solange. Kirby earned a Song of the Year Grammy nomination in 2023 for his contribution to Steve Lacy's , "rdquo" -> Bad Habit." Since 2020, he's focused on his vibrant solo career---releasing 8 LPs and earning two Libera Award nominations for Jazz Album of the Year. His work has received praise from Pitchfork, The Fader, and the Los Angeles Times. As a film composer, Kirby scored the soundtrack for Cryptozoo, which received the NEXT Innovator Award at Sundance. He scored The Luckiest Man in America starring Paul Walter Hauser and Walton Goggins. Most recently, his music provided the soundtrack to the Oscar-nominated short film Retirement Plan

Fulton Street Collective welcomes DIEGO RODRIGUEZ BIG BAND for an in-person only performance on Thursday, November 12th at 7:30pm. The evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA. The Diego Rodriguez Big Band (DRBB) is a Chicago-based, 19-piece contemporary jazz ensemble dedicated to honoring the legacy of Black American Music while exploring its continued evolution. Founded by drummer and bandleader Diego Rodriguez, the ensemble – which made its debut in December 2022 – brings together a collective of young musicians united by a shared passion for jazz and keeping the tradition alive.

There are many moments that can define a man's life and for Pharez Whitted, this is one of them. He's taken on the new role as Chicago's Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO) Jazz Director and Howard Reich at the Chicago Tribune described Pharez perfectly - "Few Chicago musician-educators are more qualified than Whitted to build the new band, for he commands a richly deserved reputation as a trumpet virtuoso, seasoned educator and irrepressible champion of the music." Whitted is humble with his legacy and his deep roots in music go as far back as the 1930's in Indianapolis where the Hampton Family Band first began performing. His mother VIrtue, his uncle Slide Hampton and the other 10 siblings (12 in total) laid the foundation with their self-educated and courageous father, Clarke "Deacon" Hampton at the helm. With that level of determination and talent, Whitted was destined to inherit the gift of music. He began his career in 1982 not long after earning his Master's Degree at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He's been on staff at Chicago State University The Ohio State University and Wabash College. He recorded his first self-entitled album, 'Pharez Whitted' with Motown in 1994 and continued recording solo albums ever since. He's performed with Nancy Wilson, Freddie Hubbard, Slide Hampton, John Mellencamp, Chaka Khan, Ahmad Jamal, George Duke, Kirk Whalum, Elvin Jones, Branford Marsalis and Meshell Ndegeocello to name a few. He is currently a clinician Jazz at Lincoln Center youth outreach program, he's a staple at Rivinia's Jazz Scholar program in Chicago and his newest role at CYSO to help find its identity and sound while bringing new faces to the young jazz scene of Chicago.
