The focus: moving away from outdated paths to getting signed, toward equity, ownership, and the tools artists need to build their own platform, from starting a label to pitching tracks to landing the right gigs. Mel Bryant & the Mercy Makers make punk rock music for adult theatre kids, inspired by pop punk, classic rock, modern sad girls and alt country. Raised on the east coast but based in east Nashville, this fully independent and DIY band records all their music in their backyard barn-turned studio, infusing elements of grunge and country songwriting into their viscerally honest, diary entry songs about things that matter to them; love, justice, community, introspection and radical acceptance.

Chicago's Questionable Decisions could be called a few different things, and they'd probably all be correct: Jazz, Creative Music, Punk, they all describe the sounds that this quintet makes. Coming from disparate parts of the Chicago music scene, it's no wonder that they sound the way that they do. Guitarist Alex Wing and vibraphonist Preyas Roy are both part of the vibrant South Side Avant-Garde Jazz scene that Chicago is rightly famous for. Woodwind specialist Michael Levin has played in just about every situation known to man, and it sounds like it in this space where he's allowed to follow his muse wherever it leads him. Bassist Chris Bernhardt is a veteran of the Chicago Blues and Jazz scenes, and his sense of groove, time and thump is vital to the Questionable Decisions sound. And then there's Paul Abella. Playing the Peruvian box drum known as the cajon, he gives the group an earthy wallop that sets them apart from many of their contemporaries. Proclaiming influences as varied as Sonny Sharrock, Eddie Harris and Fugazi while playing free improvisations and the occasional Black Sabbath tune, Questionable Decisions is making Avant-Garde Jazz for the Masses.

Palace have been making music together for over a decade. What started out as carefree jam sessions between Leo Wyndham, Rupert Turner and Matt Hodges in an airless studio in North London has burgeoned into a project that has amassed a global audience more akin to a community than a fanbase. In early 2025, Palace took a career leap that harkens back to their DIY origin. They released the Greyhound EP on their own label, Palace Presents - a collective they'd started in 2016 as a monthly night at The George Tavern in East London, which had quietly grown into something more intentional. A positive and protected space as Leo described it, away from the usual constraints of the music industry.
