Dakarai Barclay is a trumpet player and educator based in Chicago, Illinois. With each performance, Dakarai seeks to pay homage to the origins of Black American music, in all its forms, and those whose legacies we are indebted to. Outside of leading his own projects, Dakarai has played with musicians such as Willerm Delisfort, Winard Harper, Marlene Rosenberg, Jarrard Harris, Ernest Dawkins, Emma Blau and many more.

Since first forming The Nick Moss Band featuring Dennis Gruenling in 2016, master blues guitarist Nick Moss and world-class harmonica virtuoso Dennis Gruenling have become torchbearers for traditional electric blues. But rather than simply repeating what's come before, the band's high-energy take on old school Chicago, Texas and West Coast sounds is completely their own. With their new Alligator Records release (their third for the label), Get Your Back Into It!, Chicago native Moss and New Jersey native Gruenling---together with Rodrigo Mantovani on bass, and Pierce Downer on drums---deliver a deeply rooted, timeless blue collar blues album. Prairie Grass is a trio featuring guitarist Kenny Reichert, bassist Ethan Philion, and drummer Devin Drobka. The music is melodic and open, with compositions inspired by places Reichert has lived in and traveled through across the Midwest and the US. Reichert, Philion, and Drobka have played together for years, and that familiarity gives the music room to stretch, change direction, and take on a different shape each night.

After two EPs and an illuminating start to his career, Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Venna releases his debut album, MALIK. For Venna, it's been a whirlwind of a journey to arrive at this point. He's spent the better part of three years on the road touring, while coming back to London intermittently. In the spaces he finds himself in as a musician, he's often the youngest in the room. This period gave him the confidence to embark on this next stage of his career. , "rdquo" -> Every experience, every memory, every conversation, anything new, any encounter has influenced how this album sounds. I might like a particular guitar tone from it, and then I bring it into my world. Everything has come and conjured into one place, and it's beautiful to also hear and see," Venna says. I just conjured words and thoughts and tried to make art out of it." It was a learning experience for Venna, and finding the right balance was key during the incubation of MALIK. 'Twisting' featuring R&B's brightest star Leon Thomas is a slight departure from Venna's more tranquil styles and, as he describes it, , "rdquo" -> it's a song for the steppers." Founded around 1990, Sabertooth is led by two saxophonists: Cameron Pfiffner & Pat Mallinger. The band started out with the unique pairing of its two lead reedmen at an old musicians hang called Jazz Bulls in Lincoln Park West neighborhood of Chicago. From that night's collaboration the idea of Sabertooth began to take shape with a driving force behind the widely varied stylings best summed up as, 'just groove it'. Sabertooth has often ventured beyond soul-jazz and hard bop and moved into post-bop and modal territory with John Coltrane's modal recordings of the early to mid-'60s influencing the groups sound. Sabertooth is both a post-bop group and a soul-jazz/hard bop group with a highly diverse repertoire that includes many original compositions and jazz classics by Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Lester Young, John Coltrane, as well as covers by the Beatles, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Bob Marley. Special invited guests who have performed with Sabertooth have included Harry Conick Jr., Kurt Elling, Joe Lovano, Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis Band, Jack McDuff, Joey DeFrancesco, Umphrey's Mcgee Band, and many others.
