Dixon

When Dixon entered the Berlin club circuit in the early 90s, he made his name on the strength of his djing. Back then, confidence or experience from releasing mixes online didn't matter as much as it does now. You had to do your practice, of course, but when your sound was good and your mixing tight enough to take it to the clubs, there were opportunities out there. But with those opportunities came responsibilities. A residency did not mean playing the same club every once in a while, it meant playing the same club every week. The crowd didn't consist of people who pick and choose club nights and their guest djs as the weekly hype commanded them. These were people who headed straight to a certain club night because they were sure its resident dj would deliver the goods this week as he did last week, and the next weeks to come. As long as that happened, there was no need to move on. In such a context, there is no quicker way to learn how to become a very good dj than by making people dance throughout a set that lasts the whole night, on a very regular basis. If you can't hold the crowd for hours, you won't make it. It's learning by doing, the hard way. Dixon not only learned very quickly, he loved every moment of it. Starting out low, slow, unfolding the flow, working towards a peak, then working towards another, turning up, turning down, to find the exact moment to switch the mood, to find the perfect way to end what should be a lasting experience. Once you've passed your exams in the night club school of that era with flying colours, you can rely on those skills forevermore, and Dixon certainly did. His residencies then and now are clearly schooled on the stylistic and technical versatility and skills, attitude, stamina and experience gained from countless nights honing ways to direct a loyal crowd on the dance floor at will.

Fetty Wap: Nostalgia Tour

Willie Maxwell II, known worldwide as Fetty Wap, broke onto the music scene with his breakout single ?Trap Queen? in 2014 and quickly became one of the most distinctive voices in hip-hop. Originally uploaded to SoundCloud in March 2014 as a collection of freestyle verses, the record gained regional traction before RGF Productions partnered with 300 Entertainment later that year. After re-recording the track for radio, ?Trap Queen? became a cultural phenomenon? peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually earning RIAA Diamond certification, solidifying its place as one of the defining records of the decade. He followed with a string of hits including ?679,? ?Again,? and ?My Way,? all of which cracked the Billboard Top 20 and appeared on his self-titled debut album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The success earned Fetty the MTV VMA for Best New Artist and GRAMMY nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

Venna

After two EPs and an illuminating start to his career, Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Venna releases his debut album, MALIK.For Venna, its been a whirlwind of a journey to arrive at this point. Hes spent the better part of three years on the road touring, while coming back to London intermittently. In the spaces he finds himself in as a musician, hes often the youngest in the room. This period gave him the confidence to embark on this next stage of his career.Every experience, every memory, every conversation, anything new, any encounter has influenced how this album sounds. I might like a particular guitar tone from it, and then I bring it into my world. Everything has come and conjured into one place, and its beautiful to also hear and see, Venna says.Speaking on how he found the words to sing: Does anyone really have the words to say? I dont know. I dont know if I had the words to say. I just conjured words and thoughts and tried to make art out of it.Featuring vocals from Jorja Smith, Cari, Leon Thomas, Smino, MIKE, and himself, MALIK is where listeners can get lost and find themselves again. The album also features a long list of musicians including Rocco Palladino, Elijah Fox, AoD, J Warner, Marco Bernardis and longtime collaborator, Yussef Dayes.MALIK embodies the melting pot of sounds that reflects Vennas environment. Venna doesnt want to be rooted in jazz alone; his previous work for the likes of Burna Boy, Beyonc, KaliUchis, Wizkid, Knucks, J Hus and many more indicates that his saxophone was made for an expansive range of sounds.Speaking on the mood his debut album wants to evoke, Venna says: Its wherever you feel safe, where you feel vulnerable, where you feel like you can be lost, wherever you feel like you can be yourself. It could be in your car, in your bathtub, or at your favourite restaurant. It could be within the arms of your loved one. Thats the beauty of it.Venna doesnt see any of the albums features as mere guests but as collaborators and teammates while he steers the ship. In many ways, the process of making MALIK placed Venna into the role of band leader. However, Venna saw the process as a collective experience.Bringing a group of musicians together isnt easy when the music feels bigger than any individual, trying not to get too lost in the ephemeral that comes with recording sessions. It was a learning experience for Venna, and finding the right balance was key during the incubation of MALIK.Twisting featuring Rs brightest star Leon Thomas is a slight departure from Vennas more tranquil styles and, as he describes it, its a song for the steppers. Vennas vocal whispers and harmonies add warmth and depth on tracks such as Prophet. At points, Vennas vocals feel fleeting but the poise of the saxophone grounds them. My Way mesmerises with its soft-rock and folk inflections while So Paulo Memoir, at only a minute long, offers a brief taste of bossa nova blended with jazzy tones
