For nearly a decade as a duo, and longer still as solo artists, Armand Hammer have left a palpable mark on modern rap and hip-hop. At turns both sharp-witted and soul-crushing, their lyrics unspool threads of socio-political, historical, and philosophical import with a potent blend of incisive critique, gallows humor, and narrative lan. Mercy is the first Armand Hammer album since 2023s We Buy Diabetic Test Strips, a project that The Observer (UK) described as an exceptional record that deserves your time and headphones and The Line Of Best Fit deemed their headiest and most impressive work thus far. On 2021s Haram, their first with The Alchemist, the duo drag postcolonial wounds onto the examination table (Pitchfork). Beats Per Minute called it a tremendous success. Earlier this year, billy woods released GOLLIWOG, a densely poetic, totally masterful tour de force (Rolling Stone) and one of 2025s truly essential albums (The FADER). Meanwhile, ELUCIDs enthralling (MOJO) 2024 album REVELATOR was described by Pitchfork as soul food for those who know a better world is possible if were willing to fight for it. The New York Times, in naming REVELATOR one of their Best Albums Of 2024, called it a dense, overdriven, fiercely abrasive album that cranks up the tradition of Public Enemys Bomb Squad productions for 21st-century impact.

When it comes to any artform, the details are everything. Now, Tinashe always pays attention to every last detail. Not only does the multi-platinum-certified R&B disruptor sing, write, and dance, but she also produces, mixes, engineers, creative directs, and edits. As a result, she blazes past any and all boundaries. ?As an entertainer and a creative person, I feel limitless,? she asserts. ?I don?t feel pressure to conform, because I don?t have to. I don?t sit around and wait for opportunities to fall out of the sky either. When I started making music, I took it upon myself to learn how to do everything. There are very few female producers and engineers. I want to represent that you can be part of each step in the process. In the more recent years, it?s been a discovery of all the things I can do. There?s a sense of boundlessness and fearlessness. I really developed my instincts, and I trust them.?

Sunday, October 18 Digable Planets – Blowout Comb 30th Anniversary Tourwith Rich Robbins $45 Adv. / $50 Day of / 18+ / Doors: 7PM / Show: 8PM Digable Planets burst onto the music scene in 1993 with their Grammy-winning single, “Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat).” Made up of Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Craig “Doodlebug” Irving, and Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, the pioneering trio carved out a uniquely appealing style of jazz-informed hip hop that catapulted their first single to the 15th spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Shortly after, Digable Planets followed up with their debut album, Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time And Space) , an ambitious offering that Pitchfork praised as “a world within a world, complete with its own language and monuments.” Melding jazz samples, and complex rhymes that touched on everything from the nuances of city life to abortion rights Digable Planets quickly followed up in 1994 with Blowout Comb , a bold and colorful meditation on Black liberation. While the album did not initially attain the immediate commercial successes of Reachin ’, the 13-track sophomore opus has gone on to age beautifully, influencing future generations of hip hop heads, young jazz musicians, and Afrofuturists.

Armed with a pen like a nerve ending and the warm metallic buzz of a rip-saw vocal, River House Artists / Warner Records Nashville's Austin Snell is a rising country renegade whose work presents anguish and ecstasy in harrowing high definition. A 28-year-old, Georgia-born veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Snell's musical education was formed on a bedrock of artists ranging from Nickelback to Three Doors Down, Alan Jackson to Keith Whitley. Weaving country, rock, and hip-hop influences into an addictive catalog of his own originals, the emerging hitmaker boasts nearly half a billion global career streams and an exponentially growing fanbase, a series of skyrocketing digital hits and a debut album to his credit. Cutting through the noise with a series of deeply personal, self-penned songs that caught fire online during the COVID-19 pandemic, Snell's signature features heavily distorted guitars, thundering drums, x-ray-like transparency in his songcraft and a wounded vocal at the end of its rope. Dropping his full-length album debut Still Bleeding in 2024 and 2025 EP Home Sweet Hell, Snell unveiled sets of songs filled with inner conflict amidst a cycle of blackouts, breakdowns, and redemption — classic themes wrapped in new-school sonics. A SiriusXM Highway Find and the network's first-ever Artist Accelerator Program selection, Snell has toured with Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Warren Zeiders, Kolby Cooper, and more. His headlining Home Sweet Hell Tour is running now, and his next EP, Colors, is out May 1.
For Tank and the Bangas, music is a vessel for unbridled joy and transcendent connectionforces as integral to their essence as their wildly original sound. On their new album The Last Balloon, the New Orleans-bred outfit channel those impulses into something celebratory yet profoundly human, exploring themes of frustration, resilience, and self-realization with equal parts raw emotionality and playful exuberance. A shapeshifting collective helmed by lead singer Tarriona Tank Ball and multi-instrumentalist Norman Spence II, the globally beloved group completed the LP after winning a GRAMMY for 2024s spoken-word powerhouse The Heart, The Mind, The Soul, moving from incendiary poetry to a euphoric collision of soul and hip-hop and forward-thinking Rs Green Balloon (a critical triumph that earned them a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist), The Last Balloon ultimately solidifies Tank and the Bangas legacy as one of modern musics most steadfast voices of sublime exhilaration.Executive-produced by their frequent collaborator Austin Brown (Jamila Woods, Masego), The Last Balloon offers up a suite of songs designed to thrive in Tank and the Bangas rapturous live set, where unified movement becomes crucial to the show itself. Were known for a very interactive experience, so I wanted to get the fans more involved and have even more fun with the crowd, says Ball. Theres lots of gang vocals, handclaps, all these intentional moments to let everyone know, This is my part, but your parts coming up nextso get ready. A highly collaborative band whose past work has featured luminaries like Big Freedia, Questlove, and Jill Scott, Tank and the Bangas created The Last Balloon with the help of Iman Omari (a multifaceted musician whos worked with Kendrick Lamar and Mac Miller), pianist/producer Tane Runo (Brittany Howard, JID), esteemed soul singers Ledisi and Jelly Joseph, and many more. The result: a party-ready extravaganza that provides both ecstatic catharsis and communal elevation. Mainly recorded at The Complex Studios (an iconic L.A. spot once home to Earth, Wind & Fire), The Last Balloon unfolds in a loosely woven storyline charting a journey from self-doubt and erasure to empowered self-reclamation.
