Tracked with a self-devised single-mic technique and mixed in mono, serial band-starters Lira Mondal and CauField Schnug completed their debut, Hunger for a Way Out, just in time to enter quarantine. With only a singlebasement show under their belt, the band received an unexpectedly wide reception, Firstly in online punk circles, and eventually stretching beyond. In 2023, having gotten the chance to tour the USA and abroad with live drummer Spenser Gralla, the duo relocated to their new home and DIY recording compound in Lawrence,KS, and released their sophomore album, Good Living is Coming for You, on Feel It Records (US) and Sub Pop (EU/UK). The album received wide critical acclaim for its pop songwriting and idiosyncratic punk production and led to yet more touring, boosting the bands reputation as a Fierce live act.

The Soul Avengers return to SPACE after their last show here, a tribute to Al Green, in the hazy pre-pandemic past. A group of veteran Chicago musicians who've played with each other in various configurations for twenty years or more, they play soul from Memphis to Detroit, from New Orleans to LA. Steve Dawson, Alton Smith, and Bill Brickey front a band including Evanston's own Chris Greene.

Ripping up the expected blueprint Geese set with their 2021 debut Projector and the cowboy rock follow-up of 2023?s 3D Country, Getting Killed puts the very idea of conventional rock structures in the band?s crosshairs. Working at a feverish clip with renowned producer Kenneth Blume over a month-long stretch, Geese emerged wielding a sharp, novel new vision for the genre, sporting wry smiles and a resolute confidence. The album was crowned the number one album of the year on numerous Best of 2025 lists including TIME, The New Yorker, The New York Times and more. London-based songwriter Elanor Moss will be releasing her new full length, 'The Knife, The Needle', on Merge Records in August 2026. The release follows 2025 tours with Foxwarren, Flyte, and Ye Vagabonds, and was met with support across the UK, with BBC6 Music naming her "One To Watch 2026". Elanor Moss grew up in a very creative, devoutly Catholic family, and began playing music at church events. Homeschooled through early youth, her parents put a real emphasis on nature and reading and music. Eventually leaving the faith, Moss started writing songs of her own in York as a student of English literature and playing open mics around the city. While at University she also discovered songwriting greats: Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, The Beatles. Shortly after graduation, Moss met producer Oli Deakin, who offered to record her first EP, "Citrus." Her work with Deakin took her to New York City, where she began forging a sense of community. Between "Citrus" and her second EP, "Cosmic," Moss toured with Christian Lee Hutson, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and LYR, played one-off shows with Cassandra Jenkins, CMAT, and Sam Amidon, and performed at Pitchfork London, Green Man Festival, and Mosely Folk, among others.

For Diles que no me maten, every note is a small step into the unknown. The five-piece Mexico City band have always operated on a first-thought, best-thought basis, drawing on a jam-based, krautrock philosophy to craft intricate constructions of wiry art rock spiked with bluesy balladry and poetic mysticism. While their fourth album Escrito en Agua (Writ in Water) is their most consciously crafted and accessible to date, their founding principle of slow, wide-eyed exploration is alive and well.

I was married to my second husband but could see the writing on the wall, a metaphorical tornado was about to tear through my life I denied it. The record kept getting pushed back for various reasons, and I kept thinking it was getting pushed back by a greater force, now 3 years later my life is entirely different and I am radically changed as a person. From my spiritual beliefs, to my person goals and dreams and just in general, nearly everything. I had a feeling this album wouldnt see light until that chapter of my life complete. After releasing music made primarily in basements, Something We All Got is the bands first flirtation with studio recording. The edges are still sharp, however, with some parts assembled from time-honored lo-fi methods and fun, personally-sourced samples seeping into the production. The sound is explosive and upbeat, with euphoric guitars, bubbly synth lines, speedy live and programmed drums, and all other manner of sound constantly colliding. cootie catcher has three songwritersSophia Chavez (vocals, synths), Anita Fowl (vocals, bass), and Nolan Jakupovski (vocals, guitar)all of whom have distinctive voices but manage to overlap in their writing on shared concerns like navigating the lines of romantic and platonic relationships, their citys social scenes, and struggles in both the microcosmic experience of playing in a band and the zoomed-out challenges of living through late-stage capitalism. Joy still touches every surface of Something We All Got. Quarter Note Rock bounces around the room in a fit of jangling guitar chords, scratched samples, and interplay between breakbeat loops and somersaulting live drums. Its a blast of positivity despite lyrics about how disappointing it can be to meet your heroes. A smiling electro pop instrumental supports having to step painfully away from an almost realized love on Gingham Dress, a song that subverts themes of domesticity as a backdrop for the dashed wilt of hopeless devotion. The non-confrontational anthem Puzzle Pop cascades and soars through an examination of needing to ask more from others before concluding in a swirl of samples. cootie catcher rolls down hills and jumps through flaming hoops throughout Something We All Got without ever muting the visceral emotions that drive these songs. Theres a palpable tension between the bands exhilarating sonics and the raw, often uneasy sentiments expressed, but its an integral part of what makes them unique. Rather than hide, cootie catcher is instead fearlessly direct, running full-speed toward every confusion and excitement, and embracing the reality theyre in.

Called one of the most gifted singer-songwriters of his generation, by The New York TimesTeddys glorious tenor is bracing but warm and never showy. Across ten tracks, Thompson refines his craft via an exploration of musics enduring preoccupations love, longing, and the uneasy passage of time.This album wasnt built upon a grand narrative. There was no self-imposed exile, no forced reinvention. Instead, it is centered around an exhortation that is threaded through the songs like a refrain: Never Be The Same, its title only revealing itself to Thompson after hed completed the recording.Its a phrase that, unconsciously, I used twice. And when I saw it on the page, I realized, this is the message of this album, says Thompson. Dont ever be the same. Change. Grow! Even when the sentiment is, woe is me, Ill never recover after that love or loss. The message is still, change. Dont get too comfortable. Everything is temporary, so evolve or perish!
