Raíces (Roots) pays homage to the originators of Latin Jazz and performs original music in the same style. The release of their debut, self-titled album was well received and earned this exciting quintet a featured spot at the 2023 Chicago Latin Jazz Festival. Raíces was modeled on the famous Cal Tjader Quintet of the 1950's & 60's by the late Chicago percussionist Rubén Alvarez and is now led by vibraphonist Joe Sonnefeldt. They played to a standing room only crowd at Chicago's Jazz Showcase in July, 2026 to mark Cal Tjader's Centennial. Raíces includes Stuart Seale on piano, Cuban-born bassist Eric Ferrer, Chicago stalwart Bobby Delgado on timbales, and Jorge Leal on congas. Raíces' concerts are always rousing as they put their modern, Chicago-influenced stamp on the Latin Jazz classics of artists like Tjader, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera and others. Their original compositions blend seamlessly with the standards they perform.

Guitarist Alejandro Urzagaste is presenting his latest release "Universal Translation" with an all star quartet featuring Bill Carrothers, Anthony Cox and Ethan Kogan. The album is set in story with the opening track "Argent Messages," in homage to the pianist, composer Horace Silver with his voice of true inspiration. Selections are played from a mix of standards with movie music from French cinema and was recorded by Miles Hanson at Creation Audio in Minneapolis Minnesota in March of 2023. This group looks forward to playing in support of "Universal Translation." They will also be performing music from the two previous Flow recordings. Alejandro Urzagaste is a Chicago based guitarist of South American descent. He has 4 recordings out as a leader and has performed with Jodie Christian, Von Freeman, Rodney Whitaker, Fred Anderson, Malachi Favors and has toured with Deana Martin and Minneapolis rock pop act 12Rods. Bill Carrothers has been a professional pianist for over 25 years. He has played many venues throughout the U. S. and Europe including the Village Gate, Knitting Factory, Birdland, Blues Alley, New Morning (Paris), the Audi Jazz Festival in Brussels, the Nevers Jazz Festival (where he shared the bill with Abbey Lincoln), the Montreal Jazz Festival, Jazz Middelheim, and the Marciac Festival in France. In October of 2000, Mr. Carrothers headlined the prestigious Rising Star Tour throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He has been a leader on seventeen recordings, all of which have received critical acclaim. His sideman credits have included some of the greatest names in jazz, including Joe Beck, Scot t Colley, Buddy DeFranco, Dave Douglas, Curtis Fuller, Eric Gravatt, Drew Gress, Tim Hagans, Billy Higgins, Ari Hoenig, Lee Konitz, James Moody, Gary Peacock, Dewey Redman, Charlie Rouse, James Spaulding, Bill Stewart, Ben Street, Ira Sullivan, Toots Thielemans, and Benny Wallace. Anthony Cox is an American jazz bass player from Minneapolis Minnesota. He is known for his work with several leading musicians including Geri Allen, Dewey Redman, Dave Douglas, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Gary Thomas, Marty Ehrlich, Ed Blackwell, Joe Lovano, and Fred Wesley. Ethan Kogan is a Chicago-born, New York-based drummer and conceptualist who has been blessed with the company of great musicians. He has performed with WallaceRoney, Ursula Oppens, Phil Woods, Joe Lovano, Anthony Cox, Bill Carrothers, Eric Reed, Santi Debriano, Marvin "Bugalu" Smith, Frank Lacy, Marquis Hill, Emmanuel Michael, Cassandra Wilson, James Weidman and many others.

Cesar Rosas is a founding member of the iconic band, Los Lobos. Founded in 1973, the six-time Grammy winning band has spanned generations with traditional flavored music to mind altering sounds and garnered a reputation as being one of the best damn bands in America. Their latest release, Native Sons, won the Grammy for Best Americana Album in 2022. Cesar's original blues rock songs as well as his original Cumbia flavored music have helped make Los Lobos what it is. Her musical journey has taken her from studying rumba flamenca rhythms in Granada, Spain to jamming with international folk musicians in Madrid as well as singing with various bands in Chicago. Vivian has performed at The Taste of Chicago, Metro,Thalia Hall, House of Blues, Double Door, Epiphany Center, as well as World Music Fest, Mole de Mayo, Pilsen Fest,Villapalooza and many local venues. Although she is a museum worker by day, she has performed in musical theater and a Capella throughout her life. Tonight she is joined by friends to help her bring her a cappella pieces to life. About T'aira Lashae: T’aira Lashae (they/she) is an interdisciplinary artist blending text, fibers, and film into new worlds exploring human nature and its relationship to the environment, queer politics, and family ties. Based in Chicago, they are a Poet in Residence at The Chicago Poetry Center and have been published in Poems While You Wait: 15-year Anniversary Anthology and Yes Project Gallery Copy Zine. Growing up in a family of musicians, T’aira’s music journey began at a young age where poetry and music blended into one as she took inspirations from Paramore, Willow, and Eartha Kitt. About Maria Valezquez: Maria F. Velazquez is a Chicago-born urban farmer, maker, and occasional musician. Velazquez's alto and grounded voice is accompanied by her stylized western folk sound. Her inspiration stemming from singer songwriters and somber songs, lends well to her love for a simple setup-- a woman and her parlour guitar. She is honored to return to the Epiphany Center to share her songs once more. About Jovian Moon: Jovian Moon is a improvisational group based out of Chicago who ties in inspiration from jazz, RnB, Blues, Funk, and Fusion into all of their music. They love to see where the music takes them on stage and communicate these things live on stage through their instruments. You'll hear a mix of originals and covers and they will bring the ENERGY.
