Stars wheel overhead, bursting and dying and forming. Celestial bodies, anchored by ancient orbits, careen through space. Here on Earth, bodies need tending, hearts need mending. Sometimes it seems that the long night will never end. But stars and planets remind us: change is the only constant. Humbird's fourth full-length album, Morning When It Comes, is a promise made in the midst of a long night. With glittering hooks, big-hearted grooves, and clear-voiced melodies that cut straight to the truth, Humbird offers twelve new secular hymns that draw inspiration from the cosmos above to comfort us in our humanity down below. For lead songwriter Siri Undlin (she/her), this album first took shape as a set of poetic compasses for navigating mental and physical illness. , "rdquo" -> I found certain melodies and rhymes to be like North Stars," she notes, the songwriting process functioning as a balm and a map for reckoning with internal worlds of pain and discomfort. This process isn't new for Undlin: whether singing as a kid in school stairwells, around the kitchen table with family, conducting extensive folklore and musical research worldwide as a Watson Fellow, or touring through the US and EU/UK on the heels of her 2024 album Right On, music has always been her tool for navigating the world. , "rdquo" -> I wrote these songs when I was really sick, and it could've very easily been a really depressing album," she says. , "rdquo" -> But in the studio, it was important to all of us to find the ways these songs could harness mischief and exuberance -- not to downplay the density of the emotions, but to represent the complexity and contradictions that occur on any given day of our lives." Recording Morning When It Comes with trusted collaborators in Eau Claire, Wisconsin transformed these twelve self-soothing songs into a bigger, more universal conversation about stability, surrender, and the power of being in community.

**Come celebrate the release of Shallow Alcove’s debut album ‘Pain Is A Heavy Door."** **Shallow Alcove** is a band built from a long-standing friendship between Grace Krichbaum, Dan Harris, Peter Groppe, Jack Harrington, and Noah Dardaris. Their sound carries the folk sensibilities of Upstate New York alongside the indie influence of New York City, woven together with layered harmonies and deeply personal songwriting. There’s an intimacy to their sound that makes each song feel less like a performance and more like a conversation with someone you’ve known forever. Their debut album, Pain Is A Heavy Door, is a record about becoming someone new without quite knowing how to leave the person you were behind. Across the album, friendship, love, grief, uncertainty, and the passage of time blur together, turning everyday moments into something tender and expansive. At its core, the album is about learning to accept the uncomfortable parts of growing up and finding people who make you feel a little less alone in them. What began with friends writing songs in bedrooms and basements in Upstate New York has grown into a band split between New York and New Jersey, but Shallow Alcove’s roots have remained the same: storytelling with the people they love. Pain Is A Heavy Door is a document of that friendship from the laughter, grief, shared meals, borrowed beds, bad karaoke, and growing pains that shaped the people making it. It is an album about accepting the weight of change while holding onto each other through it.

When the members of Slow Pulp discuss Yard, their second full-length record and first for ANTI-, their vocabulary often defaults to synesthetic imagery and sensation. "We have so many visual cues for how we talk about music," singer and guitarist Emily Massey says as she stops herself in the middle of explaining how the album's second song, "Doubt," sounds like wakeboarding. "Doubt is quite dark lyrically, but it is found in this upbeat and almost campy environment." On Yard, the Wisconsin-bred, Chicago-based four-piece nestles comfortably into pockets of nuance, impressions, contradictions -- sonics and lyrics finessed together to bottle the specific tension of a feeling you've never quite been able to find the right words for. In that regard, listening to Slow Pulp can feel like being in a room with someone who's known you so long that they can read your every micro-expression and pinpoint exactly how you're feeling before you can.

Varsity Dropout is a Chicago-based indie folk project using music as a therapeutic lens to explore memory and connection. Rooted in raw, unvarnished songwriting, the sound bridges the warm, expansive folk of Mumford & Sons and Bon Iver with the emotional weight and dynamic punch of Manchester Orchestra and The 1975. Every track is an invitation to process the heavy stuff together. Alma Yeon: Alma Yeon creates kaleidoscopic songs on keyboard and electric ukulele. Her lyrical music explores growth, grief, and finding joy in unexpected places. An up-and-coming singer-songwriter in Chicago, Alma Yeon's moving performances have been called "playful and provocative" with the power to gather and heal. Alma Yeon searches deep and creates love songs, a forgiving mirror, and a call to action. Martin Bandz: Martin Bandzoumouna (aka Martin Bandz) is a Chicago-based singer-songwriter and producer whose multi-genre sound draws from a upbringing in jazz and symphonic bands, classical funk and R&B, African icons like Koffi Olomide and Youssou N'Dour, and 2000s alt-rock.

The Chicago Review — A Poetry Reading with… Cynthia Cruz, the author of ten poetry collections, including Hotel Oblivion, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and was a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Award. She has received a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton University and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She recently completed a PhD in philosophy at the European Graduate School, where she wrote her dissertation on Hegel and madness. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Notre Dame. Sara Nicholson, the author of three books of poetry, most recently April, all from the Song Cave. A chapbook of new poems, Honesty, was published by Distance No Object in 2026. She teaches in the MFA program at Boise State University. Martin Corless-Smith, who was born in Worcestershire. His next book is From The Black Sea (Shearsman Books, UK, 2027).
Formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997, Death Cab for Cutie broke through internationally with 2003?s platinum-certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of ?The Decade?s 50 Most Important Recordings.? Their 2005 major-label debut, Plans, also went platinum, earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Alternative Album, and produced hit singles including ?Soul Meets Body? and ?I Will Follow You into the Dark.? Over the decades they have continued to create and top charts. This June they released their 11th studio album, I Built You a Tower. The record showcases Death Cab for Cutie?s signature blend of introspective storytelling and dynamic rock arrangements with standout tracks like ?Riptides? and ?Punching the Flowers?.

Grammy Award winning drummer Kyle Swan has been working on mastering his craft for over 18 years. He has demonstrated true dedication to enhancing his artistry in every way. He attained his Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from University of Miami's Frost School of Music from the years 2013-2018. He studied Criminology and Jazz Studies in his undergraduate degree and became the TA for the Jazz Drum Department during his graduate studies. He has participated in many music festivals across the world which include the Montreal Jazz Festival (Canada, 2016), The Jazz Cruise(2017, 2023, 2024), University of Wyoming Jazz Festival (2024), Port Au Prince Jazz Festival(Haiti, 2018), Dromos Jazz Festival(Italy 2018), Guatemala Jazz Festival(Guatemala 2019), Menorca Jazz Festival(Spain 2019), Leavenworth Jazz Festival (Washington 2023), and many others. He has had the honor of performing/recording/touring with many esteemed artists such as, @Grammy Award winning artists Kurt Elling, Brian Lynch, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Paquito D'Rivera. He has also had the privilege of playing/recording with other phenomenal artists such as Sean Jones, Orrin Evans, Peter Bernstein, Rodney Whitaker, Cyrille Aimee, Bobby Broom, Martin Bejerano, Ira Sullivan, Alex Brown, etc. Kyle can be heard on recordings including @Grammy Winning "Omni American Book Club," "Gola Akoustik," "Kemet (The Black Land)," "Hallways," and others. Kyle has also taught/performed at various jazz camps/festivals including Tonica International Jazz Festival (Guadalajara, 2016), Festival de Jazz de Antequera (Spain, 2022), and Leavenworth Jazz Festival, (Seattle, 2023). As he currently resides in Chicago, Il., you can find him performing at jazz clubs and teaching master classes and privately around the city, country, and abroad. As a student of the Black American Artform that is Jazz, Kyle has devoted quality time to his musical evolution, instruction, and mastery.

Turnover?s sixth album, Down On Earth is a foundational shift for the band. It?s an evolution encompassing fragments of the various sounds and scenes they?ve cut their teeth in over their decade-spanning career. Honed in with the help of their longtime front of house engineer Zac Montez, Turnover sought out to and succeeded in capturing the essence of their renowned live show to Down On Earth. The album is also the most collaborative in their discography. The band reconvened after 2022?s Myself in the Way and took their time, utilizing the course of four years to hammer out the shape of their new album in the room together, iterating and improvising on ideas, experiences, riffs, and stray lyrics that each member brought to those sessions from lived experiences and life changes over that span.
