The War And Treaty

Please Note: There is a delivery delay on all orders until approximately one week prior to the show. For the past decade, soulful duo The War And Treatythe husband-and-wife team of Michael and Tanya Trotterhave released music that continues to elevate them beyond beloved industry favorites, as well as award-season and touring staples, capable of performing on stages worldwide with widespread acclaim and standing ovations. Every aspect of their new project exemplifies the pinnacle of the groups ever-creative growth within these mentioned ideas.Twelve years after their founding, The War And Treaty have redefined themselves beyond Academy of Country Music, Country Music Association, and GRAMMY nominations. Moreover, being lauded by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, and the Americana Music Association, which named them Duo/Group of the Year for two consecutive years, cannot contain them as a group greater than the sum oftheir most successful parts.Immediately upon listening to their latest album, its clear that a more vibrant energy now guides a duo confidently shaping their own destiny.Album collaborators include titans of the arts who are as much friends, mentors, and trusted confidants as they are legends across multiple industries: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award winner Whoopi Goldberg (who provides the spoken word intro for Litty), Songwriters Hall of Famer Kenneth Babyface Edmonds (writer of You Cant Hurt Me Anymore), Country Music Hall of Famer Wynonna Judd, and Grammy-nominated performer Valerie June (both on Reclaim All Of Your Time) all contribute as guest artists.Hall of Fame-caliber mentors and influential friends, now serving as relaxed collaborators, shape how powerhouse country-soul vocalists like Valerie June and Wynonna Judd influence The War And Treatys latest sound. The duos pairing is less unlikely than it appears at first glance: both grew up listening to classic country and Memphis soul records, among many other genres. As a result, on the song Reclaim All of Your Time, their styles blend seamlessly with Tanya Trotters veteran gospel-soul stylings. For nearly five years after writing the folksy, female-empowerment ballad, Michael Trotter, its creator, believed it should be presented as a conversational piece with layered harmonies. He was right. The song, both in its composition and vocal delivery, combines warmth and strength to forge a rare genre bridge. Beyond collaborations, The War And Treatys latest work also thoughtfully seeks to expand Ray Charles 50-year-old idea that the best music exists in the tension between sacred sounds and secular desires.Given that Michael and Tanya Trotter are a married couple, their ability to explore that space is obvious. Yet, their decade-long efforts to meet industry expectations in folk, Americana, and country music left significant raw and romantic potential in their sound untapped. Were finally performing material that shows people how, beyond being mature and intentional, how sanctified and sexual we can be, says Tanya Trotter. For Michael and me, its important to show the combination of rawness and sweetness that underlies our soulful sound.

Jalen Ngonda: Doctrine of Love Tour with Brooke Combe

Jalen Ngonda honours soul musics rich history while pushing it forward into new territory, an artist whos both archivist and explorer, a disciple of the greats actively shaping the future of music. Having spent the last three years growing this new soul vision from small clubs to arenas and festivals across the world Ngonda stands poised to become the new spokesman of authentic soul with the release of his second album Doctrine Of Love.Doctrine Of Love is an instant classic of an album, a long player alive with a confidence and swagger that seals the young singers reputation as not only the spiritual heir of souls great leading men but a one-off songwriting talent stepping far out from the shadows of his artistic ancestors. The title track Doctrine Of Love sets both the emotional tone and musical template for the rest of the album, I wrote that track when I was trying to do anything to get out of the studio remembers Ngonda. I was listening to a lot of James Brown at the time and that was an inspiration - Doctrine to me was a word no-one ever uses, I took it to be like a certificate, the Certificate of Love - look, I think maybe I meant doctorate, but we wrote it and recorded it and now its a whole thing. The Doctrine of Love is multi-faceted of course - yes, it can be a cool word that fits the song, it can be a code, a philosophy, words to live by, words to love by, words to write some classic music by. I just write the song, Ngonda enthuses, the listener can interpret it however they want. The difference that makes Jalen Ngonda a pioneer rather than a disciple of this soul doctrine is he lives it 100%. He has an insatiable vinyl digging habit, searching for records wherever he goes in the world. His grandmother gave him a shitload of Stax and Motown 45s as a teenager and that gave him the bug. I listen almost exclusively to music from the 60s, he enthuses. The 50s, the 40s. Pretty much nothing past about 1972. Records do sound slightly better on an analogue system, but its more of a behavioural thing with me. This extends to his effortlessly classic style, most of it is quite retro at the moment, he admits, that old skool thing. Who knows, soon I might be dressing in baggy jeans and sneakers, Ive kind of been feeling that, then the month after I might be dressing from the 1940s. On stage I dress in 1950s clothing because I want to wear something slick when Im singing a slick song. The way he conducts himself on stage is an extension of this, the model of gentlemanly charm and grace, as if hed had a crash course from the legendarily rigorous Motown charm school. Hes a 21st century modern spirit questing for vintage authenticity and the walking embodiment of a classic soul gentleman, a Marvin Gaye for the Discogs era.

The Wooten Brothers

The Wooten brothers first public performance occurred in Hawaii in 1966 and established their identity as prodigies. Since then, Victor Wooten & the Wooten Brothers (brothers Regi, Roy & Jospeh) have racked up 10 Grammy wins, and 26, yes, 26 Grammy nominations. And the youngest of the family, Victor, the brother who learned from all his older brothers, has been named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the ten greatest bass players of all time.As a family band, they are second to none. The Brothers music bends and defines genres; amplifies centuries, and spans continents. The Wooten Brothers began in RThe Wootens, that combined Electronic, Funk, Soul, Disco, and Boogieand offered only a sliver of the Wooten whole. The Wooten whole is all of thatand classical, and jazz, and country, and Rock-and-Roll. Connecting a musically deep past to musical future, the Wooten Brothers explode genres and build bridges across genres. Bar by bar, in live performances and on recordings, they provide an exhilarating connects-you-to-the-center-of-the-universe sound.

A Holiday Cabaret with The Uptones

The Uptones are one of the most venerable post-collegiate/adult a cappella groups in Chicago; we were founded as Uptown Sound in 2009 — before The Sing-Off, before Pitch Perfect, just as a cappella was exploding off of college campuses nationwide. A group of young professionals, with a mixture of singing experience (from college a cappella groups, to musical theatre, to choirs, to nothing at all), came together and decided to set out on an adventure in the world of contemporary pop a cappella. We've gone from performing for 20-odd family and friends in a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop to regular audiences of over 120 at our biannual concerts, and from a repertoire of self-arranged music by none other than our talented members. In our more than a decade of singing together, over 70 people have joined us for at least a little while (anywhere from 12–16 at any one time). We sing because we enjoy performing, because we need a creative outlet… and we stay, because it's fun. The makeup of the group continues to change, but the personality remains the same: music, friendship, and a little bit of humor. We hope you'll love listening to us as much as we love performing for you.

Jamila Woods: 10 Years of HEAVN

Jamila Woods is a poet, singer, and multidisciplinary artist from the South Side of Chicago. Her critically acclaimed debut album HEAVN an ode to Blackness, girlhood, and home was released by JagJaguwar Records in 2017. Her sophomore project, LEGACY! LEGACY!, features twelve tracks named after writers, thinkers, and visual artists who have influenced the creators life and work including James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni and Frida Kahlo. Her third album, Water Made Us (2023) is a genre-blending song cycle on love and the wisdom of surrender. The albums sequence is cleverly designed to echo the different stages of a relationship: the early days of easy compromising, flirtatiousness, and fun; the careful negotiation through moments of conflict or hurt; the grieving of something lost; and the tender realization at the end of it all that the person who is gone never really leaves, but stays with you as you find yourself ready to try again, refreshed and reassured. The albums sprawling 17 tracks span from autotuned RSend A Dove, to gentle acoustic folk rock on the heart wrenching Wolfsheep, to bubbly dream-pop on dance anthem Boomerang.Jamila has been featured on NPRs Tiny Desk, CBS This Morning, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She has shared stages with Corinne Bailey Rae, Rafael Saadiq, Bonobo, Common, Chance the Rapper, Brittany Howard, Macklemore, and many others. In 2022 she served as artist-in-residence at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University, teaching workshops on poetry, songwriting and live performance. An award-winning poet, Jamilas work often blurs boundaries between poem and song. As cultural critic Doreen St. Felix writes, It makes you wish all singers were poets.

Thee Sinseers: Love Stories Tour with Taylor Williams

Fronted by bandleader and son of East Los Angeles Joey Quiones, Thee Sinseers have quietly chipped away at the sounds of RLove Stories, one thing becomes abundantly clear: this is not an LP that explores a neat and tidy love story. Its interested in everything that comes before it, after it, and in spite of it. The band leaned into earthier instrumentation standup bass, guitars run through amplifiers for a warmer sixties-adjacent tone. Its that cross-genre thinking that Quiones sees as the records defining quality. The band sought to capture the highs and lows of romantic relationships while expanding the frame to include the familial, the complicated, and the unresolved. Like an unsent love letter finally delivered, Love Stories carries the weight of everything that was felt but never quite said.

Hollyy - 6th Annual Hollyy-Days Celebration

Chicago! We are back for our 6th annual Hollyy-Days show this December, and could not be more excited to spend the evening with you right back at Thalia Hall. Almost one year to the day of our debut album release in 2025 too! Well be playing all of the hits and throwing in surprises per usual. Were never not in awe that so many of you factor this show into your Holiday plans, so we cant wait to see you on December 11th!Flaunting a signature combination of stirring vocals, jazzy instrumentals, and indie rock stylings, its no surprise that Hollyy has been likened to such modern soul powerhouses like St. Paul and the Broken Bones (Atwood Magazine). Aside from headlining their own live shows, Hollyy has opened for several prominent artists, including Jalen Ngonda, Jacob Banks, Lady Wray and Gwen Stefani. Hollyy features the talents of Tanner Bednar (vocals/guitar), Peter Giere (keyboard), Rafe Soto (drums), and Dominic Zeier (bass). And as American Songwriter puts it, even the sharpest nose wont find anything manufactured about their talent. Theyre the real deal.
