The Sidepieces is a country band with a rotating cast of Chicago singers and players revisiting a range of mostly sad songs, some recent/some old, some familiar/some hidden gems, some traditional/some unorthodox. Led by Jordan Martins on pedal steel, The Sidepieces plays these songs in order to listen to eachother, improvise, find the form, invite surprises, and stretch the sounds that inhabit the song. Current members include Angela James, Sam Cantor, Ryan Norris, Kelsey Wild, Raul Cotaquispe, Nolan Chin, Gus Martini, and Chris Salveter (Judson Claiborne) among others. Listening, talking, weeping, dancing, and laughing are all encouraged from the audience.

Candi Jenkins is an up-and-coming roots artist making a name for herself with classic yet modern songwriting that blends traditional country, Appalachian bluegrass, and Americana. As Candi puts it, I couldnt find the type of country I wanted to hear, so I started making it myself.Though she claims Lexington, Kentucky as home, her roots also stretch through Louisville, southern Indiana, Canada, and Southeastern Kentucky. After moving to Kentucky, Candi found a deeper connection to her Appalachian heritage, saying, Appalachian music is in my blood in a way that is beyond surroundings. It is a part of me. She explores that connection in her song God Dont Care.Candi has quickly built momentum on the road, opening for acts like Clay Street Unit and Andy Frasco, with upcoming shows alongside Benjamin Tod. She appeared at South by Southwest in 2025 and Luck Reunion in 2026.Currently, Candi is recording her debut album with Andrija Tokic at The Bomb Shelter. Distinguished british artist and 'original folk voice' Ruth Theodore has been steadily releasing critically acclaimed studio albums for over a decade. Having started her career as a street busker on Englands south coast, Ruth is now signed to Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe records and sharing labels, stages and studios with iconic international artists, as a performer, writer and recently co-producer, making her critically acclaimed music alongside long term collaborators; Tony and Grammy award winning producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose, and Swiss-American virtuoso percussionist Mathias Kunzli. Ruth's music is inspired by lived experience which makes her a folk singer in essense, but there's a strong sense of playful rebellion in her delivery that embodies hints of 1920s vauderville theatre, buckets of indie punk rock attitude and the relentless lyrical energy of a beat poet. Rita Bliss is an Austin-based folk musician who captures moments, memories, and conversations in song. A Rust Belt native, her melodies are rooted in the old-time banjo sounds of Appalachia and sung with a vaguely upstate-New York accent. From the open landscapes of Texas to the bitter winters of the Northeast, Rita has collected truth, fiction, and many musical influences along the way. The Sweet Maries are a contemporary, harmony forward, female fronted singer-songwriter acoustic indie-folk Americana group led by Amy Shoemaker and Susie Lofton. Our repertoire includes curated favorites from the 60's & 70's, highlighting artists like Dylan, Donovan, the Beatles as well as some gospel classics, a little jazz and of course our own original material that explores the American folk experience. Its a sacred realm of folk wisdom and sorrowful vulnerability. NPR said he offers expertly-picked resonator guitar and lyrics that puncture the soul. Parr tours prolifically, and has performed at tastemaker events like the Newport Folk Fest and Pickathon.The Duluth-based guitarist, songwriter, and interpreter of traditional music has released twenty albums over two-and-a-half decades and has been known to perform up to 275 shows a year. Parr is a folk troubadour in the truest sense: taking to the road between shows, writing and rewriting songs as he plays, fueled by a belief that music is eternal and cannot be claimed or adequately explained. The sounds from his working-class upbringingincluding Folkways legends such as Lead Belly and Woody Guthrieimbue Parrs music with stylistic echoes of blues and folk icons of decades past. Parr sees himself merely as a continuer of a folk tradition.Parrs mastery of his craft is only more apparent when contextualized within the history of folk tradition to which Parr has dedicated his practice. The land and lives around and intersecting with Parr have always influenced him, from the hills and valleys of Hollandale, Minnesota to the Depression-era stories from his father.Parrs first album with Smithsonian Folkways, Last of the Better Days Ahead (2021), foregrounded his lyrical craftsmanship and sophisticated bluesman confidence, with spare production highlighting Parrs mastery of guitar and elevating his blues poetry. In his 2024 release, Little Sun, Parr weaved together stories celebrating music, community, and communing with nature. In doing so, he put forth an ambitious and raw album that exemplifies the best of Parrs sound: his blend of the blues and folk traditions with the steadfast originality of a poet.
