It's a sacred realm of folk wisdom and sorrowful vulnerability." NPR said he offers , "rdquo" -> expertly-picked resonator guitar and lyrics that puncture the soul." Parr tours prolifically, and has performed at tastemaker events like the Newport Folk Fest and Pickathon. The Duluth-based guitarist, songwriter, and interpreter of traditional music has released twenty albums over two-and-a-half decades and has been known to perform up to 275 shows a year. Parr is a folk troubadour in the truest sense: taking to the road between shows, writing and rewriting songs as he plays, fueled by a belief that music is eternal and cannot be claimed or adequately explained. The sounds from his working-class upbringing---including Folkways legends such as Lead Belly and Woody Guthrie---imbue Parr's music with stylistic echoes of blues and folk icons of decades past. Parr sees himself merely as a continuer of a folk tradition. Parr's mastery of his craft is only more apparent when contextualized within the history of folk tradition to which Parr has dedicated his practice. The land and lives around and intersecting with Parr have always influenced him, from the hills and valleys of Hollandale, Minnesota to the Depression-era stories from his father. Parr's first album with Smithsonian Folkways, Last of the Better Days Ahead (2021), foregrounded his lyrical craftsmanship and sophisticated bluesman confidence, with spare production highlighting Parr's mastery of guitar and elevating his blues poetry. In his 2024 release, Little Sun, Parr weaved together stories celebrating music, community, and communing with nature. In doing so, he put forth an ambitious and raw album that exemplifies the best of Parr's sound: his blend of the blues and folk traditions with the steadfast originality of a poet. Now, he continues that tradition with 2026's poignant and timely Rooming House, which joins the chorus of WPA-era socially-conscious folk operas and outlaw country concept albums of the 1970s to poignantly allegorize his experiences and the experiences of the people around him. Originally written for and performed with a traditional four-piece band, Keiko's music has been reimagined and rearranged to highlight the infinite expressive and creative capabilities of percussion. The members of Bridge Percussion and Sachi Keiko first crossed paths as students of Northwestern University's classical percussion program, but have since come together to create music that goes beyond their classical roots. With this performance, they aim to showcase their shared passion for music in a way that blends influences from traditional chamber playing and orchestral percussion with elements of indie songwriting. By blending percussion and voice, they've crafted a performance that is unique, approachable, and demonstrates the versatility and limitless possibilities of the modern-day percussion ensemble.

I'm a lot of things in no particular order... a preacher's son, a brother, a husband, a dad, a real estate lover, a major-label artist, an independent artist, an opener, a headliner, a very self-conscious dancer (think , "rdquo" -> Footloose", only without the cathartic cutting loose), a gardener, a wanna be surfer, a person who has needed therapy, a pickleball player, a barstool theologian, and this next one kind of goes without saying because you're here reading my bio.. I'm a singer-songwriter. I've written a lot of songs. Probably approaching around 1,000 songs now... to me, when I wrote them, they were all good songs. The luxury of time has informed me, some of the songs were maybe just good to me. And some of the songs, inexplicably, have millions upon millions of listeners. Meanwhile, others have tens upon tens. I don't know why, I just write them and set them free. Ultimately, I'm trying my best to be honest, and write a song that I, and you can both love. I'm gonna keep trying. Their weekend workshopping of Avett Brothers and classic country tunes led to original songs and adding Sorens brother Jens on mandolin. As the years grew, the band turned into a more rollicking outfit, adding Neil Krause on electric bass and Stas Hable on drums. The bands name is a nod to the glacial melt-carved river valleys they call home, known by early French fur trappers as coulees. Chicago! The Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band returns to Martyrs' Friday, November 20th! Grab your tickets!! Three time BMA nominee's The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band are "the greatest front-porch blues band in the world". They are led by Reverend Peyton, who most consider to be the premier finger picker playing today. He has earned a reputation as both a singularly compelling performer and a persuasive evangelist for the rootsy, country blues styles that captured his imagination early in life and inspired him and his band to make pilgrimages to Clarksdale, Mississippi to study under such blues masters as T-Model Ford, Robert Belfour and David "Honeyboy" Edwards.Their latest record, Honeysuckle was produced and recorded by Reverend Peyton and mixed by eight-time Grammy winner Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White). The record features many special guests, including gospel music group The McCrary Sisters on the song "Manger," Blues Music Hall of Famer and Grammy-nominated harmonica player Billy Branch who plays on the Blind Lemon Jefferson song "Nell (Prison Cell Blues)," Grammy award-winning and IBMA's 10-time Fiddle Player of the Year Michael Cleveland plays on "Freeborn Man" and Colton Crawford from The Dead South plays banjo on "The Good Die Young." Adrian and Meredith Band is a Nashville-based Bohemian swing-folk act built around rhythm, movement, and the shared experience of live music. Led by married troubadour duo Adrian and Meredith Krygowski, the band draws from Americana, swing, soul, polka, and global folk traditions.

The Sidepieces is a country band with a rotating cast of Chicago singers and players revisiting a range of mostly sad songs, some recent/some old, some familiar/some hidden gems, some traditional/some unorthodox. Led by Jordan Martins on pedal steel, The Sidepieces plays these songs in order to listen to eachother, improvise, find the form, invite surprises, and stretch the sounds that inhabit the song. Current members include Angela James, Sam Cantor, Ryan Norris, Kelsey Wild, Raul Cotaquispe, Nolan Chin, Gus Martini, and Chris Salveter (Judson Claiborne) among others. Listening, talking, weeping, dancing, and laughing are all encouraged from the audience.

Robbie Lynn's haunting melodies are born of protest both personal and political. This concert begins with the premiere of Pavane for Palestine Lachrimae and audiovisual chamber works Catalyst and Eclipse. The ensemble showcases many of Chicago's top classical and new music performers including conductor Alexandra Enyart, mezzo soprano Angela Born, harpist Julie Spring and pianist Mabel Kwan. For the second set, Robbie Lynn will perform Synthesesia Suite, an epic multiple movement structured improvisation for live looped instruments and voice with audio and video synthesizers. This concert is made possible by a generous Individual Artist Grant from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
