Barely 20 years old, the Atlanta-based emo-folk duo hey, nothing – Tyler (he) & Harlow (they) – wades through complex emotions with sharp wit and humor. The name of the band is a reference to the book and movie “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” in which the character Patrick insists to his shop teacher that he calls him Patrick or he calls him nothing. After that, multiple people do indeed call him nothing. 2024’s Maine EP – written, fittingly, in a small cabin in the middle of Maine – was a major breakthrough moment for the band, incorporating earnest and cutting lyrics that pull directly from their experience of the hardships of growing up too early, too fast. Their follow-up EP, 33°, showcases their honest portrayal of grief as it blends emotional, raw storytelling with powerful soundscapes to depict the story of a young boy and his untimely death. More recently, their single “Waiting Room” is an intimate exploration of anxiety, fear, and emotional vulnerability, continuing the duo’s signature blend of poetic lyricism and heartfelt emotion. They have sold out runs of headlining shows, garnered notices from the likes of NPR Music, Alternative Press, Pigeons & Planes, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, & more. In June 2026 they announced their debut album, Hound. Spanning 11 tracks, the LP is due out August 21st via Music Soup/Interscope Records. A press release calls Hound the “proper introduction to everything hey, nothing have gone through and everything they want to become.” The duo have spent much of the last six years together, touring and performing at major fests like Bonnaroo on the back of viral singles like “i haunt ur dreams.” But all that success left “little room to breathe, to process all the highs and lows of what each had seen.” Rather than break up as they almost nearly did, hey, nothing instead used the recording for Hound to “rediscover their friendship and their love for making music. The end result, the pair added, is “the first time we wrote with a cohesive vision, with songs glued together to tell a whole story. It’s more us than anything we’ve released.” Album closer “Arteries” is said to be the song that best captures their growing pains, as the duo question their friendship and sense of accomplishments if they had actually broken up. Ultimately, though, “Arteries” is “the sound of emotions hey, nothing had rarely let themselves feel in the past: hope, resolve, resilience.” The accompanying music video for “'The Arteries' represents our forever growing (and glowing) friendship and commitment towards one another. We wanted to visualize that we’d be strung together in every universe. Even if that universe is a generationally ambiguous fever dream with robbers and seizures and basketball.”
