About
There is more than one artist with this name: 1) The creation of producer/label-head Dick Griffey and Leon Sylvers, Dynasty was a Los Angeles band that recorded light funk and dance-pop for SOLAR Records from the late '70s into the late '80s. Bassist Kevin Spencer and vocalists Nidra Beard and Linda Carriere comprised the group's best-known lineup. Their first four albums were released in annual succession from 1979 to 1982. Their biggest hit was 1980's "I've Just Begun to Love You," which reached #6 on Billboard's R&B chart. Beard also wrote material for labelmates Shalamar and The Whispers. The group remains particularly well known for tracks including "Adventures in the Land of Music," "Here I Am," "I Don't Want to Be a Freak (But I Can't Help Myself)," "Groove Control," "Love in the Fast Lane," "Day and Night," and "I've Just Begun to Love You." 2) Based out of the wildly diverse Los Angeles and San Francisco music scene, Dynasty was a dancewave/party-punk group fronted by the mercurial Jibz Cameron (Roofies) on vocals and keyboards, with Diana Hayes (Mono Pause) on bass and Indra Dunis (Numbers) on drums. Sporting hooks, looks, chops, and undeniable rockstar power, Dynasty were a product of the West Coast dancewave/party-punk culture of the early 2000s. Their music was fresh, beat-oriented and melodic, awash in sex, deadpan humor and all-consuming uniform lust. Upon their 2002 inception, Dynasty became one of the more sought-after bands on the contemporary West Coast dancewave party circuit, sharing bills with Erase Errata, Stereo Total, Gravy Train and the Deep Throats. Their self-titled album includes "Amys Song," "You've Got Problems," "Lonliness," "Animals," "My Information," "Uniform Lust" and "Wargasm." 3) Dynasty, also known as Ya Girl Dy or D.Y., is a hip-hop artist originally from Queens, New York, later based in Tampa, Florida. Born and raised in Queens, Dynasty (Diana Hardy) has always found herself at the center of attention. She attended Five Towns College on Long Island, studying Theatre Arts. After grants and financial aid ran short, the president of the school offered to waive the balance on her tuition, leading to one of her favorite descriptions of herself: "the first rap chic with a rap scholarship." Known for her soulful delivery, sharp lyricism and empowering messages, Dynasty blends East Coast boom-bap with elements of soul and conscious rap, often exploring themes of identity, resilience and self-belief. Her influences range from hard-edged hip-hop artists such as M.O.P. to soulful performers including Erykah Badu and Ella Fitzgerald. After moving to Tampa, she opened for Little Brother and connected with DJ Sandman. She subsequently performed alongside or opened for artists including Wu-Tang Clan, Mos Def, Big Daddy Kane, Redman and Method Man, Talib Kweli and KRS-One. Dynasty gained wider attention through support from DJ Premier, who included her single "Femcee" on his On Tha Road Again mixtape and later produced "Epic Dynasty," which appeared on his compilation Get Used to Us. Her first project, Dreampusher, was released in 2010. She later released A Star In Life's Clothing in 2013 and Forever, DY in 2017. Tracks including "Magnificent," "Street Music," "After Laughter," "Epic Dynasty" and "Femcee" helped establish her reputation in underground and international hip-hop. Her music is rooted in authenticity and purpose, combining the soul of a dreamer with a determination to follow that dream wherever it might lead. 4) Based out of Los Angeles, Dynasty is a hardcore band in the tradition of old-school hardcore. The group released Truer Living With A Youthful Vengeance through Strike First Records before moving to Facedown Records for Beyond Measure. Their music is aggressive, direct and spiritually minded, with a strong sense of urgency and conviction. Beyond Measure includes "Brick By Brick," "Rise to Victory," "Omni-Death," "Hard Pressed," "Beyond Measure," "Savage Mind," "Undefeated," "Death Solution" and "Explicit Method," with guest appearances including members of Agnostic Front, Stick to Your Guns, Sleeping Giant, Terror and Wu-Tang Clan. 5) American hip-hop duo from the New York City area, active from the late 1990s into the early 2000s. The group consisted of SUN, a.k.a. Stroker Brown/Sun Magnetic, and Rapper Ness, a.k.a. Classy Freddie Blassie. The duo released underground material including "Wildcat," "Poisonous Youth," "Outlaw (Wildcat Pt. II)," "Bonafide" and "Lovely Day." 6) Formed in 1996 in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Dynasty is a heavy metal band whose early music was influenced by traditional heavy metal groups including Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon and Black Sabbath. The original musicians were Nahor, Daflas, Anderson and Lelo. Walter later joined as a second guitarist, while Samuel replaced Lelo. The band began performing outside Minas Gerais in 1997 and became one of the pioneering Christian heavy metal bands in Brazil. 7) Dynasty was a band composed of Carlos Gonzales (Russian Tsarlag), Jeremy Harris (Lazy Magnet), Christopher Forgues (Mark Lord) and Ren Schofield (Container), active from approximately 2006 to 2007. 8) Dynasty is also a Reggaeton/Dancehall male singer of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent, self-described as the "Prince of Dancehall." He is also part of Dynasty & Padrino. 9) Dynasty is also the name of a French Kiss tribute band.
