About

Angine de Poitrine is a Canadian rock duo formed in Saguenay, Quebec, in 2019. The group consists of two anonymous members performing under the pseudonyms Khn de Poitrine (guitar and bass) and Klek de Poitrine (drums). Their music has been described as incorporating elements of math rock and experimental rock, with compositions that make use of complex and often microtonal structures. The duo is also known for an unconventional visual presentation, performing in oversized papier-mâché masks and black-and-white polka-dotted costumes. The band initially adopted its disguises for practical reasons, following a scheduling situation in which they were booked to perform two shows in the same week at a local venue and sought to distinguish the second performance. The anonymity and costumed presentation later became a defining aspect of their identity. The name Angine de Poitrine is the French term for angina pectoris, a medical condition referring to chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. The duo has stated that the term reflects the intensity and dissonant qualities they associate with their music. The members are from the La Baie borough of Saguenay and have collaborated musically since adolescence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when live performances were limited, both members worked in construction while continuing to develop the project. Angine de Poitrine released their debut album, "Vol. 1", on 14 June 2024. Following its release, the duo gained increasing attention within the Quebec music festival circuit, with performances at events including Le Festif!, M for Montreal, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and Pop Montreal. In December 2025, they received the "Artist of the Year" award at the GAMIQ awards. In late 2025, the duo performed at the Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, France. A recording of this performance was later published in February 2026 by Seattle radio station KEXP and became widely circulated online, accumulating millions of views. The increased visibility contributed to a broader international profile for the group. In March 2026, Angine de Poitrine appeared on the Quebec talk show "Tout le monde en parle". Around the same period, they were discussed by several musicians and public figures, including Dave Grohl, who commented positively on their performance in an interview, and Sean Lennon, who noted the widespread sharing of their live video on social media. Their second album, "Vol. II", was released on 3 April 2026. Following its release and the viral response to their KEXP session, the duo undertook an international touring schedule. The tour began in March 2026 at the Tremor Festival in the Azores, Portugal, and included multiple sold-out performances in Quebec. Distribution agreements were established for physical releases outside Quebec through ATO Records in the United States, F>A>B in the rest of Canada, and Republic of Music in Europe. Further tour dates were scheduled across Europe and the United States later in 2026. Full Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angine_de_Poitrine Studio albums Vol.1 (2024) Vol.II (2026)
